Progressive Relaxation

Progressive relaxation is a way to relax your mind and body by progressively tensing and releasing muscle groups throughout the body.

Begin by sitting comfortably or lying down. Tense each muscle group for about 5 seconds without straining. Then slowly release the tension and mindfully feel the muscles relax.

Complete this tense and release exercise with the muscle groups in your body in the following order:

  1. Feet

  2. Legs

  3. Torso

  4. Arms

  5. Hands

  6. Head

Be sure to keep breathing throughout the exercise.
