Failure Wheel of Fortune

Here is a fun game to play with your students to help reinforce the benefits of “failure” and its critical importance to reaching our potential and ultimate success.

Hopefully you have seen the show Wheel of Fortune before. For this game, draw on a whiteboard the boxes shown in the image above.

Explain that each box has one letter in it and the word that these letters spell out describes a way we can take the concept of “failure” and reframe it in a more positive light.

Now have one student guess a letter. If the letter is in the word, write that letter in the appropriate box on the whiteboard. For instance, if the student guessed the letter “F” from the image above, you would write the letter “F'“ in the first box. Have students continue guessing letters. Once a student thinks they know the entire word or phrase, which in this case happens to be “feedback”, they should raise their hand to venture a guess. If they get it correct, discuss why this word can be another way of looking at failure.

You can do the exact same activity with other words that can be used to reframe failure including:

  • Wisdom

  • Learning Experience

  • Opportunity

  • Insight
