360 Breathing

Many times, when we breathe the focus is on the front of the body, expanding and contracting our chest and diaphragm forward. 360 Breathing changes that focus so that the expansion and contraction is happening all around our full body including the sides and the back.

Try out a few of these breaths by following the steps below.

  1. Stand up tall and place your hands around the sides of your lower rib bones. Thumbs to the back, fingers in the front, like I am showing in the picture above.

  2. As you take a full breath in, send your breath wide and to the sides into your hands and all along your back. Keep your shoulders nice and relaxed.

  3. As you exhale, try to keep some of that space, root down through your seat and try to get a little taller through your spine, kind of like a springboard.
