Time for Some Pie
Pumpkin pie is my favorite, well, Costco’s Pumpkin Cheesecake to be exact. My daughter and I always cut into it the day before Thanksgiving, frustrating my wife each and every year.
As pumpkin pie season is about to begin, try out this pie activity that may be even more rewarding (but not as delicious).
On a sheet of paper draw a large circle. This circle will be a time pie to allow you to reflect on the major tasks that make up the 24 hours in your typical day.
Divide this circle up into the tasks you have on a typical day. Include things like sleep, school, work, practice, family responsibilities, self-care activities, recreation, exercise, eating, spirituality, community or social obligations, etc.
Once you have that pie divided…
Look at your circle carefully
Stop
Take a Deep Breath
Reflect
As you reflect, you may want to ask yourself questions like…
Am I doing the things that will help me achieve my goals and potential?
Am I allotting enough time for myself and my physical and mental health?
Is everything important?
Could I prioritize better?
Do the “shoulds” outweigh the “wants”?
Now, on another sheet of paper, draw a large circle and divide that time pie into what you consider your ideal proportions allotted to those major tasks.
Once you have that pie divided…
Look at your circle carefully
Stop
Take a Deep Breath
Reflect
Determine one action you can take today to get your day more in line with this ideal time pie and do it!
