It is a stressful world we live in today. With so much going on in our personal and professional lives, it is difficult to balance all of these competing priorities. This can result in an unbelievable amount of stress. I am sure many of you have uttered the phrase, “All of this stress is going to send me to an early grave”, or something similar to it, at least once in your life. And you would be right.

In her popular TED Talk, Stanford Health Psychologist, Kelly McGonigal, refers to an eight-year study that found adults who experienced “a lot of stress,” and believed stress was harmful to their health, had a 43% increase in their risk of dying.

Yet, demonstrating the amazing power of your mindset, people who experienced the same amount of stress, but did not view it as harmful, were no more likely to die.

So the next time you catch yourself thinking – all this stress is killing me – think again! Instead place positive thoughts about the stress in your mind. Believe that it is good for you, that it is preparing you to conquer greater challenges and accomplish bolder goals in the future.
